David Millard

David Millard discovered St. Thomas in 1959 and returned every winter for the rest of his life, drawn by what he believed was light as luminous as Paris. From his studio at Caret Bay, he painted and taught generations of students, earning gold medals from the American Watercolor Society, the New England Watercolor Society, and the Rockport Art Association, as well as recognition from the National Academy of Design. His three instructional books — The Joy of Watercolor, More Joy of Watercolor, and Impasto — remain beloved references in the field. In a career spanning six decades, he exhibited in over thirty one-man shows and is remembered by artists and collectors alike for his inventive, luminous command of color.
